Hon. Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, member representing Kaduna North Federal Constituency, has announced the completion of the second phase of the Alhaji Bashir El-Rufai Scholarship targeted at financially vulnerable students of Kaduna State University (KASU).

In a statement shared on Monday via his official X account, El-Rufai said the ad hoc committee he constituted to oversee the scholarship process had successfully concluded its assignment.

He noted that the committee ensured transparency in the selection process, stressing that all beneficiaries were individuals unknown to him personally.

“I am pleased to announce that the ad hoc committee I set up to execute the Alhaji Bashir El-Rufai Scholarship for financially vulnerable students in Kaduna State University has completed its task. This is the second phase of the initiative,” he stated.

According to him, the beneficiaries were drawn from multiple wards within Kaduna North, including Shaba Ward, Gaji Ward, Unguwar Liman Ward, Maiburuji Ward, and Kabala Ward, reflecting a broad-based approach to inclusion across the constituency.

El-Rufai further disclosed that the committee adhered strictly to the criteria he outlined at the inception of the programme, which included provisions to ensure representation for women, Christians, and persons living with disabilities.

He commended the committee for meeting these requirements and announced plans to reward its members.

“The ad hoc committee met the requirements I set up and announced for a minimum number of women, Christians and individuals with ‘Special Abilities’ Community. I will be providing a bonus for the efforts of the ad hoc members as a token of encouragement,” he added.

The lawmaker also reaffirmed his commitment to grassroots development in Kaduna North, noting that his focus remains unchanged despite ongoing political activities in the country.

“Despite all the election noise, we will continue to focus on the excellent people of Kaduna North as we have done from day one,” he added.

El-Rufai, who also chairs the House Committee on Banking Regulations, has in recent years championed several constituency-based interventions, with the scholarship scheme aimed at expanding access to higher education for underprivileged students.
