The Kano State House of Assembly has constituted an ad hoc committee to screen the nominee for the position of Deputy Governor, Murtala Sule Garo.
The decision followed the formal transmission of Garo’s name to the Assembly by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, in a letter read during plenary on Wednesday by the Speaker, Jibril Ismail Falgore.
Announcing the development, the Speaker said the committee, chaired by the Deputy Speaker, has been mandated to carry out the screening exercise and report its findings to the House on Monday.
Garo’s nomination comes in the wake of the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, on March 27, 2026.
The screening committee includes principal officers of the House such as the Majority Leader, Chief Whip, Deputy Majority Leader, and Majority Whip, alongside lawmakers representing various constituencies across the state.
The Assembly is expected to invite the nominee for the screening process as part of the constitutional requirements for confirmation, a move aimed at ensuring continuity in the state’s executive leadership.
