The Lagos State Parking Authority (LASPA) has announced plans to commence its On-Street Parking Scheme in selected local government areas, including Ikeja, before the end of 2026.
The announcement was made on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by LASPA General Manager, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, to the Chairman of Ikeja Local Government Area, Comrade Akeem Olalekan Dauda, according to a statement issued by the agency’s Head of Public Affairs, Dunkwu Divine.
Adelabu said the visit was part of efforts to strengthen collaboration with local government authorities and sensitize them on LASPA’s activities aimed at improving parking management across the state.
She explained that the forthcoming scheme would require motorists to pay for parking in designated on-street locations, beginning with a pilot phase in selected councils.
The LASPA boss said the initiative is expected to improve parking management, reduce traffic congestion and create employment opportunities, especially for residents of the affected areas.
She noted that local government councils and local council development areas would benefit from the authority’s parking management programmes depending on their level of cooperation and support for implementation.
Adelabu added that LASPA remains open to suggestions and input from local authorities and other stakeholders to ensure the successful rollout of the scheme.
She also explained that responsibility for parking management in Lagos was originally under local governments before being transferred to LASPA by the Conference of the 57 Local Government Areas and Local Council Development Areas in the state.
Responding, Dauda thanked the agency for the visit and commended LASPA for its efforts to improve parking management across Lagos.
The Ikeja council chairman also pledged support for the initiative and called for increased public sensitisation to educate residents on proper parking practices.
