The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has commenced a strategic in-house training programme for its senior officers aimed at strengthening professionalism, discipline and operational efficiency.
The initiative, which focuses on emotional management, professional etiquette and time management, is part of efforts to enhance service delivery and improve public engagement in traffic management across Lagos State.
According to a statement signed on Monday by the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the programme is designed to reinforce discipline and equip officers with essential soft skills required for effective public service.
The training places emphasis on emotional intelligence, courteous interaction with motorists and strict adherence to operational procedures, especially in high-pressure situations commonly encountered on Lagos roads.
Participants are also being trained on maintaining professionalism in their dealings with members of the public, with the agency stressing the importance of patience, tact and respect in daily operations.
In addition, the programme includes modules on time management, aimed at improving productivity, prioritisation of duties and efficient allocation of resources in a fast-paced urban traffic environment.
Speaking on the development, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the success of the agency depends largely on the discipline and emotional stability of its personnel.
He noted that beyond traffic control, officers must uphold high standards of conduct that inspire public confidence and strengthen institutional credibility.
“The training is also intended to promote a culture of punctuality, accountability and organised workflow among senior officers, who serve as leaders and role models within the Authority,” he said.
The programme also features practical sessions and case studies highlighting the consequences of poor time management and unprofessional behaviour, with the aim of encouraging best practices among participants.
Other areas covered in the training include cyber security, specialised report writing and presentation skills, understanding human behaviour, positive threat management, and effective use of communication radio systems.
LASTMA said the initiative represents a deliberate investment in human capital development and aligns with global best practices in traffic management and public administration.
