The NNPC Limited has cautioned members of the public against falling victim to fraudulent claims suggesting that the company is selling scrap materials and equipment from its refineries.
In a public notice shared on its official X (formerly Twitter) page on Friday, the national oil company dismissed the reports as false and misleading, stressing that it has not authorised any such transactions.
The company clarified that it has neither issued requests for bids nor approved any process for the disposal of refinery components, scrap materials, or equipment from its facilities.
“The Company wishes to categorically state that this information is untrue. NNPC Limited has not issued any request for bids, tenders, expressions of interest, or approvals for the sale of scrap materials, refinery components, or any items from the warehouses or inventories of any of its refineries,” the statement read.
NNPC further disclosed that it had received reports of individuals impersonating its officials and falsely presenting themselves as agents authorised to facilitate the sale of refinery scrap and equipment.
According to the notice, such individuals are not affiliated with the company and are deliberately attempting to deceive unsuspecting members of the public for personal gain.
The company urged individuals, corporate organisations, and stakeholders in the energy sector to disregard any solicitations or claims relating to the purported sale and to exercise due diligence in their dealings.
NNPC reiterated that it is not currently conducting, nor has it approved, any sale of scrap metals, refinery equipment, or related assets from its operations.
It added that any legitimate disposal of assets would follow due process and be publicly communicated through its official channels in line with regulatory requirements.
The company also encouraged members of the public to report suspicious approaches or fraudulent activities to relevant law enforcement agencies.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability, the statement was signed by Andy Odeh, Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Limited, who emphasised the company’s dedication to the responsible management of Nigeria’s energy assets.
