Reports circulating on social media on Tuesday claim that Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has died at the age of 40, after allegedly battling stage 4 liver cancer.
However, the development remains unverified at the time of filing this report, as there has been no official confirmation from his family, management, or relevant industry bodies.
The viral claims, which were first amplified by a talent manager and filmmaker, Sam Olatunji, suggest that the actor passed away in a hospital after a prolonged illness. Some posts further allege that Ekubo had been battling liver cancer privately, a claim that has not been independently confirmed.
Actress Kate Henshaw also shared a brief post online stating, “I just heard a terrible news!! Father Lord plsssss,” though it is unclear whether the message is connected to the circulating rumours about the reported death of the actor.
The post did not reference any specific individual or incident, and no confirmation has been provided to link her reaction to the ongoing unverified claims.
Concerns have also been raised due to the actor’s prolonged absence from social media, with reports noting that he was last active online in 2024.
Prior to the current rumours, some of his colleagues, including IK Ogbonna, had publicly stated that the actor was simply taking a break from social media, insisting at the time that there was no cause for alarm and declining to disclose any health-related issues.
As of now, the situation remains unclear, with fans and industry stakeholders awaiting an official update from his family or representatives.
Efforts to reach his close friend, IK Ogbonna, were unsuccessful as he did not respond to calls or messages at the time of filing this report.
