The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to accountability, professionalism, and public trust with the continued strengthening of its Complaints Response Unit (CRU), urging citizens to report cases of misconduct and unprofessional behaviour by officers.

This was disclosed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, during an emergency conference with Commissioners of Police and members of the press held at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Centre, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

This was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Deputy Commissioner of Police Anthony Okon Placid.

According to the police chief, the Complaints Response Unit remains fully operational round the clock, providing members of the public with a direct platform to report misconduct by police personnel.

“The Complaints Response Unit remains fully operational 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing members of the public with a direct platform to report cases of misconduct, abuse of office, extortion, human rights violations, and other unethical behaviour involving police personnel,” he said.

Disu noted that accountability remains a key pillar of ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, adding that genuine complaints from citizens would continue to receive prompt attention and necessary action.

“Legitimate complaints from citizens will continue to receive prompt attention and necessary action,” the IGP stated.

He also encouraged Nigerians to make responsible use of the available complaint channels, stressing that public cooperation is vital to building a more transparent, professional, and people-centred police institution.

“Public cooperation is essential to building a more professional, transparent, and people-centred Police institution,” he added.

The Force assured citizens that all reports submitted through the CRU would be treated seriously and confidentially, while disciplinary measures would continue to be taken against any personnel found culpable after investigations.

“The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its determination to strengthen public confidence and institutional integrity through transparency, responsiveness, and respect for the rule of law,” the statement added.
