Ossai Ovie Success, an aide to Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, has faulted claims by social media personality Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen spent ₦7.8 million per night on a hotel room in Turkey.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Ossai said he was disappointed by the claim, insisting that the information being circulated about the Nigerian football star was inaccurate.
According to him, he contacted a source at the hotel where Osimhen and his teammates were lodged and was informed that the accommodation expenses were covered by the football club, not by the player himself.
“I was shocked when I heard Very Dark Man claim that Victor Osimhen paid ₦7.8 million per night for his hotel room in Turkey,” he wrote.
“As soon as I heard it, I called a friend at the same hotel where Osimhen and the team were lodged. From what I was told, the claim isn’t accurate.”
Ossai explained that it is common practice for clubs to handle accommodation and logistics for players, including providing slots for family and friends during celebrations.
He also described Osimhen as financially prudent, saying the Galatasaray forward would not spend such an amount on a single hotel room for one night.
“From what I know of Osimhen, he’s actually quite careful with money and wouldn’t spend that kind of amount on one person for a single night,” he stated.
The governor’s aide further criticised the growing controversy involving VeryDarkMan and Osimhen, arguing that the situation was unnecessary and damaging.
“I’m disappointed that Osimhen is being pulled into this situation with Very Dark Man. The kind of validation he seems to be seeking through him is only creating more controversy and doing more harm than good,” he added.
