The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at former presidential candidate Peter Obi over his reaction to the United States’ recent designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” (CPC).
In a statement by Seye Oladejo, spokesman for the Lagos APC, on Tuesday, the party expressed disappointment over Obi’s response, suggesting he was more concerned with scoring political points than addressing the country’s pressing issues.
The APC noted that Obi’s delayed reaction appeared to be prompted more by public pressure than by patriotic instinct.
“When he finally spoke, the nation saw what we expected – too little, too late, and too predictable,” the statement said.
“His reaction lacked sincerity, urgency, and any semblance of a unifying spirit.”
The party emphasised that true leaders defend their country during difficult moments, balancing criticism with dignity and national pride. According to the APC, Obi appears “content only when Nigeria is under pressure, believing every challenge for the nation is an opportunity for his political resurrection.”
The statement also highlighted steps taken by President Bola Tinubu to address insecurity in the country, including strengthening military command and intelligence structures, deploying modern technology, enhancing regional and global security collaboration, and tackling the economic roots of insecurity.
“While serious leaders are working, Obi and his online supporters are revisiting past grievances and clinging to foreign commentary for political attention,” the APC said.
The party urged Obi to choose between supporting Nigeria or engaging in what it described as “politics of desperation,” adding that the nation will continue to advance under the “Renewed Hope” agenda despite criticism from those it accused of profiting politically from national challenges.
