Former Minister of Interior and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, on Tuesday criticised the All Progressives Congress’ governance, stating categorically that the party has failed Nigerians in the economy, security, and other crucial areas.
Aregbesola, branding the APC-led federal government a disappointment to suffering Nigerians, asserted that their troubles stem from God having abandoned them – saying ‘things fall apart’ for the ruling party because they’ve been left to their own devices.
Aregbesola made these remarks in Osogbo after wrapping up the party’s tour of the Osogbo/Olorunda/Orolu and Irepodun federal constituencies.
The former governor, who had led the party mobilisation across the nine federal constituencies in the state, told a large crowd of party supporters who trooped out to embrace him that they should reject the party in 2027.
According to him, “Those in government now tried their best, but God is not with them because they didn’t start with God.”
“They are selfish. They started with the word ’ Emi, instead of Awa’. They have been disgraced in all sectors, especially in the economy, security, governance, and others,” Aregbesola added.
“God has left the present government and even the government at the centre. They used to rig elections; we know their tactics.
“Ahead of the next election, they have started taking good care of women, who are no longer of childbearing age. On the day of the poll, give them new clothes, and let them sit in a group of 10 per polling booth and leave the rest to God.
“The reign of the APC will come to an end in the next general The party has failed to hit a high standard in the economy, security, and other critical sectors.
“There is no sector where they have not failed. They have disappointed Nigerians in almost every sphere.
“The economy is in dire straits, insecurity is ravaging the country, as well as many pitfalls of the present administration.
“The only viable alternative to all of these is our great party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which is poised to liberate the people and make life more abundant for the masses.
“We are glad that our people have resolved to vote out an incompetent government. Our party, if elected, will correct all of the governance misnomers and set the tone for our dear state, Osun and country to witness a mass-oriented development.
“Continue to mobilize and draw more people to join the party and participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. We promise you all a government of vision, mission and direction.
”It is time for Nigerians to speak with one voice and galvanise the electorate to vote out the ruling parties at all levels,” Aregbesola said.
The former Governor of Osun noted that his party presents the viable alternative to addressing the nation’s challenges of insecurity, maladministration, poverty, hunger and absence of good governance.
After the tour, the former state governor led the leadership of the party to the palace of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Oyetunji, on a courtesy call, where he was described as a good leader.
In his reaction, Osun State APC Director of Media Kola Olabisi queried Aregbesola and asked, “At what point did APC fail?”
According to him, “He (Aregbesola) was governor for eight years and minister for four years through the benevolence of this same party, he said has failed. He is attacking himself.
”The ex-Interior Minister reached his current height through the benevolence of God and the party he castigated.”
