The family of late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo has announced details of his burial rites following his death at the age of 40 after a battle with advanced metastatic kidney cancer.
The funeral arrangements were disclosed in a statement shared on the actor’s Instagram page on Monday and signed by Mazi Alex Oji Ekubo Okwaraeke on behalf of the family.
According to the statement, the burial activities will begin with a service of songs on June 10, 2026, at The Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.
A Christian wake is scheduled to hold on June 17 at the family residence located at 7 Ekubo-Okwaraeke Avenue, Aziukwukwa, Ujari Village, Arochukwu, Abia State.
The funeral service and interment will take place on June 18 at Mary Slessor School, Amanagwu Village, Arochukwu, Abia State, after which a reception will follow immediately.
The family stated that mourners are expected to wear white during the burial ceremonies.
“With profound sorrow, yet gratitude to God for a life so beautifully lived and deeply impactful, we officially announce the funeral arrangements of our beloved husband, son, brother, friend, and colleague, Alexx Ekubo-Okwaraeke,” the statement read in part.
The family appealed to fans, colleagues, friends, and well-wishers to continue praying for the actor’s wife and relatives while also joining them to celebrate his life and legacy.
They also expressed appreciation for the support received since his death, describing the outpouring of love, prayers, visits, and messages as overwhelming and comforting during the difficult period.
According to the family, the late actor lived a life filled with love, generosity, warmth, laughter, and unwavering devotion to God and those close to him.
“His presence filled rooms, lifted hearts, and created memories that will remain with us forever,” the statement added.
Ekubo made his acting debut in the 2005 movie Sinners in the House and went on to feature in several notable productions including Afamefuna: An Nwa Boi Story, A Sunday Affair, Omo Ghetto: The Saga, Hire a Woman, Weekend Getaway, Lagos Cougars, and Your Excellency.
