Tinubu nominates Ex-DSS DG, two others as ambassadors

President Bola Tinubu has nominated a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Kayode Are, along with two other individuals, as non-career ambassadors.

Kayode Are from Ogun State was a former DG of DSS under President Olusegun Obasanjo.

In a letter President Tinubu sent to the Senate for their confirmation on Wednesday, the two other nominees were identified as Aminu Dalhatu representing Jigawa State, and Ayodele Oke from Oyo State.

The nominees were announced towards the end of plenary session by the President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio.

“The list contains three names for now, I am sure others will follow,” Senate President Akpabio said after reading the letter from the president.

The senate president has therefore directed the Senate Committee on Foreign affairs to review the nominations and report back to the chamber within one week.

The development is part of ongoing efforts to fill Nigeria’s diplomatic vacancies abroad amid heightened security and diplomatic pressures, including tensions with the US over alleged religious persecution in Nigeria.

Recall that after President Donald Trump of the United States blacklisted Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern, many blamed this on the non-appointment of ambassadors.
