Three immigration officers killed, patrol van burned in Kebbi ambush

Three officers with the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) were shot dead Thursday night when suspected members of the Lakurawa armed group launched an attack on a checkpoint in Kebbi’s Bakin Ruwa community, Bagudu local government.

In the attack, the gunmen set fire to a patrol vehicle and destroyed the checkpoint’s shelter area.

The incident was reported o Friday via X (formerly Twitter) by security analyst Bakatsine, who shared a video showing the attack’s aftermath.

“Yesterday night, gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa attack Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa community, Bagudu LGA of Kebbi State. They killed 3 NIS officer, set a vehicle ablaze and destroyed the shelter area during the attack,” Bakatsine wrote.

Bakatsine further asked, “What steps do you think communities and authorities can take to improve safety in situations like this?”

Violence against security personnel in Nigeria has escalated, with recent attacks highlighting the grave risks faced by those tasked with maintaining law and order.

In Kebbi State, gunmen killed three officers of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) at a checkpoint in Bakin Ruwa, Bagudu Local Government Area, and torched a patrol vehicle.

Such targeted assaults on security forces not only claim lives but also undermine efforts to ensure public safety.

These incidents reflect a disturbing trend where security officials, meant to protect communities, become targets of armed groups often seeking to disrupt governance or further illicit agendas.

The Lakurawa armed group was suspected in the Kebbi attack, underscoring the diverse threats security forces grapple with across Nigeria.
