The Lagos State Government has sealed off Yakoyo Restaurant, a well-known eatery in Victoria Island, for violating environmental regulations and allegedly deploying thugs to attack officials from the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) team during a Wednesday inspection.

The development was made public by Tokunbo Wahab, Commissioner Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, in a post he shared on X.

The statement reads, “In a follow up joint enforcement operation carried out today 10th December, 2025 by the Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) and Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) also known as KAI, to enforce environmental standards on the indiscriminate discharge of untreated wastewater, fats and oil into the environment, hoodlums from the Yakoyo Abula Restaurants Victoria Island at 134, Sinari Daranijo Street Victoria Island, attacked KAI Officers and injured four (4) in the course of the operation.

“The Yakoyo restaurant not only broke the government’s seal, they went further to unleash armed thugs on officials who were lawfully carrying out their duties. This crosses every line.

“Let it be clear: Any individual or business that assaults, obstructs, or threatens government officers on duty will face decisive action. Such premises will be sealed without hesitation, and those responsible will be prosecuted.

“We will not allow lawlessness to take root in Lagos. No one is above the law, and any attempt to intimidate government officials will be met with firm and immediate consequences.”

In addition, the Commissioner disclosed that the restaurant’s supervisor was arrested and the facility has been sealed pending further notice. Additional arrests are planned as authorities work to identify and apprehend those responsible for the violent incident.

“The Supervisor of the restaurant was arrested, the facility sealed until further notice while further arrests are to be made to fish out the perpetrators of this unlawful act,” the statement concluded.
