Defection: Adeleke victim of circumstance, says PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has portrayed Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke’s defection as an unfortunate consequence of circumstances.

The PDP’s factional National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, made the comment in a Thursday interview on Channels Television’s Morning Brief.

“Governor Adeleke’s defection is a victim of circumstance, which is vicarious, because every problem is human caused, and therefore, should also have human solution.

“And at the level of the leadership which he belonged to at the party, the party ought to have acted decisively. The challenge is immediately we begin to feed the monster, without knowing that we’ll end up in the belly of the monster, after a while we become victims.

“So if we feed animals to the monster, we feed others to the monster, and we think that time would solve problems. Time allows human beings to solve problems. It doesn’t, on its own, solve problems.

“So it’s vicarious in the sense that action by leadership ought to have been taken from 2023 immediately the decline started, but there were negotiations. I mean, you also cannot fully blame them, because sometimes you think that with negotiations, when passions are calm, that people could reconsider their position. But unfortunately, it didn’t until the convention took the decision it did in Ibadan.

“So that’s the nature of what has happened. Adeleke has become a victim of circumstances arising from vicarious liabilities which he cannot completely extricate himself,” Ememobong said.

Adeleke left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following a leadership crisis within the party.

In November, Governor Adeleke announced his resignation from the PDP.

The resignation, contained in a letter dated November 4, 2025, and addressed to the Chairman of the PDP in Sagba/Abogunde Ward 2, Ede, Osun State, cites the ongoing national leadership crisis within the party as the reason for his decision.

In the letter, Governor Adeleke expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities afforded him, including his elections as Senator representing Osun West and as Governor of Osun State under the party’s platform.

The letter reads, “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.

“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”

The letter was acknowledged by the party chairman on the same day it was written.
