His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, has conferred chieftaincy titles on Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Governor of Zamfara State, Senator Abubakar Yari.

During the colourful ceremony held at the Alaafin’s Palace in Oyo town, Seyi was installed as the Okanlomo of Yorubaland while Yari was conferred with chieftaincy title of Obaloyin of Yorubaland.

The title “Okanlomo of Yorubaland” signifies “the one dear to the hearts of all Yoruba people” or “beloved child,” symbolising deep affection, unity, and cultural significance.

Meanwhile, “Obaloyin of Yorubaland” is a high-ranking Eso-class honour representing love, compassion, justice, and guardianship of the realm.

Both titles are said to come with responsibilities that include promoting Yoruba culture, advising the Alaafin, fostering unity, and advancing education and social welfare.

The event drew prominent Nigerian figures, including dignitaries from across the country, underscoring the titles’ recognition of contributions to national unity, cultural preservation, and societal development.

Among dignitaries at the event are former Ogun Governor Gbenga Daniel; former Kano governor and erstwhile chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC); and Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Others include members of the House of Representatives, led by Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu; members of the Federal Executive Council; and traditional rulers from Nigeria and the Republic of Benin.

The Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu; the Statistician-General of the Federation, Adeyemo Adeniran; the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Olawale Edun; and Senator Teslim Folarin.
