Osun: Esa-Oke monarch is dead

The Owamiran of Esa-Oke in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyemi Akanbi Adediran, has passed away.

The monarch was said to have died in the early hours of Wednesday, May 6, 2026, bringing to an end a reign widely regarded as impactful in the history of the ancient Ijesa community.

His passing was confirmed in a statement issued by the Ijesa Community Development Assembly (ICDA), and signed by its Chairman, Asiwaju Olayinka Fasuyi.

The group described the monarch’s death as a painful loss, not only to the people of Esa-Oke but to the entire Ijesaland.

“The transition of His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeyemi Akanbi Adediran, is a painful loss to Esa-Oke and the whole of Ijesaland,” the statement said.

According to the ICDA, the late monarch’s reign was marked by dignity, wisdom, and an unwavering commitment to peace, unity, and development.

It noted that Oba Adediran served as a custodian of culture and tradition, while also helping to strengthen the relationship between traditional institutions and modern governance.

“Throughout his reign, Kabiyesi remained a symbol of stability and guidance, especially during difficult periods, where his leadership brought reassurance to the people,” the statement added.

The assembly further praised the monarch for his dedication to community development, particularly in promoting education, social harmony, and collective progress within Esa-Oke and its environs.

It said his leadership helped strengthen communal ties and reaffirmed the continued relevance of traditional institutions in contemporary society.

The monarch’s death has thrown Esa-Oke and the wider Ijesaland into mourning, with tributes already pouring in from indigenes, community leaders, and well-wishers.

The ICDA extended condolences to the royal family, the people of Esa-Oke, the Obokun Traditional Council, and the Owa Obokun of Ijesaland.

“We pray that God grants the family and the entire community the strength to bear this loss, and grant the departed monarch eternal rest,” the statement said.

It added that the legacy of Oba Adeyemi Adediran would continue to live on through the values he upheld and the lasting impact of his reign.
