FCTA rolls out hotlines to tackle refuse menace

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has launched four hotlines for residents to report uncleared refuse, as part of efforts to tackle the growing waste management challenge in Abuja.

The FCTA announced the hotlines in a statement issued Tuesday by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media.

The initiative aims to ensure waste management contractors do their job promptly and efficiently, according to the statement.

“The FCTA has made four telephone numbers available to residents to report incidents of uncleared refuse in their areas,” Olayinka said.

He urged members of the public to send pictures and videos of waste that has not been cleared to the designated numbers via WhatsApp, stressing the importance of providing accurate location details.

“Residents are encouraged to specify the exact locations of the refuse so that the appropriate contractors responsible for those areas can be identified and held accountable,” he said.

The phone numbers provided for reporting are 08038643087, 07011073406, 07011255710, and 09114843425.

Olayinka said the move forms part of the FCTA’s broader strategy to improve environmental sanitation and enhance accountability among waste management service providers in the FCT.

The administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean and healthy environment and called on residents to actively support the initiative by promptly reporting sanitation concerns.
