Nigerian Army troops have thwarted an armed robbery attempt on the Abuja-Kaduna Highway, responding to a distress call during a routine patrol on Tuesday.
A statement by Lieutenant Colonel Shuaib Umar, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 1 Division, on Wednesday revealed that troops from Sector 1 Operation Fansan Yamma conducted the operation.
According to the statement, the incident occurred on Tuesday, when troops on routine patrol received a distress call regarding an ongoing armed robbery attack at Nasarawan Doka.
The statement reads, “Upon receipt of the information, the troops immediately mobilised to the location and engaged the criminals, effectively neutralising the threat.
“During the encounter, one of the arrested suspects, Kabiru Zayyanu, who sustained a gunshot wound to the leg and was promptly evacuated to Doka General Hospital, where he received first aid. Other members of the criminal gang fled the scene.”
The statement added, “Troops conducted a hot pursuit; however, no further contact was made. Additionally, no casualty or abduction was recorded during the operation.
“The arrested suspect will be handed over to the relevant security agency upon completion of the investigation.
“The general security situation in the area remains calm, while troops continue to maintain a strong presence, dominate the area, and ensure a secure d environment.”
“The Nigerian Army reassures the general public of its continued commitment to safeguarding lives and property and urges members of the public to report suspicious activities to security agencies,” the statement concluded.
