The National Leader of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, has congratulated Nigerian workers on the occasion of the 2026 Workers’ Day, praising their resilience, sacrifice and dedication to national development.
In a statement issued on Friday, Dickson commended workers across the public and private sectors, as well as those in the formal and informal economy, for their daily efforts in sustaining the nation despite prevailing challenges.
He said Nigerian workers remain the backbone of the country’s progress, noting that their labour keeps the wheels of development turning.
“Today, we honour the men and women across every sector—public and private, formal and informal—who rise each day with hope and determination to provide for their families and contribute to national development, often under very challenging circumstances,” he said.
The former Bayelsa State governor called for renewed commitment to policies that reward hard work, protect the dignity of labour and create opportunities for citizens, especially the youth.
According to him, the country must become a place where workers receive fair wages, opportunities are expanded, and young people can face the future with confidence.
“As we celebrate this important day, we must also reflect on the urgent need to create a country where hard work is rewarded, dignity of labour is protected, wages are fair, opportunities are expanded, and young people can look to the future with confidence,” Dickson stated.
He said the NDC represents a new political culture built on justice, competence, productivity and people-centred governance.
“The NDC stands for a new political culture anchored on justice, competence, productivity, and people-centred governance. We believe Nigerian workers deserve leadership that values their contributions and is committed to building an economy that works for all,” he added.
Dickson also saluted Nigerian workers for their courage, perseverance and patriotism, wishing them a happy Workers’ Day celebration.
