A man has been apprehended by the Lagos State Government for allegedly dumping refuse on a public road in the state.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement posted on his X (formerly Twitter) page on Monday.
According to Wahab, the suspect was arrested during an early morning patrol by enforcement officers.
“During our early morning patrol today, the individual seen in the video was apprehended for dumping refuse on the road.
“The suspect will be charged in accordance with the environmental laws of Lagos State. We will continue to enforce these laws to ensure compliance and maintain a clean and orderly environment.”
Wahab noted that the action is part of ongoing efforts to enforce environmental laws and maintain sanitation across the state.
Lagos has consistently demonstrated its zero-tolerance policy towards indiscriminate waste disposal, with recent actions underscoring its commitment to maintaining a clean environment.
The government maintained that dumping refuse on public roads not only compromises the aesthetic appeal of the city but also poses significant health risks to residents. As such, authorities have been vigilant in identifying and prosecuting offenders.
The Lagos State Government’s latest apprehension of an individual accused of dumping waste on a public road reflects its unwavering stance on environmental protection.
The government encourages citizens to report instances of environmental misconduct, reinforcing the collective responsibility in preserving the city’s cleanliness and beauty.
