APC: Lagos GAC endorses Hamzat as consensus guber candidate for 2027

The Lagos State Governance Advisory Council (GAC) has unanimously adopted the Deputy Governor, Dr. Kadiri Obafemi Hamzat, as the consensus candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

The development follows a series of internal consultations within the Lagos APC, where several key party stakeholders reportedly aligned behind a unified position ahead of the next electoral cycle.

Prominent party figures in the state, including Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, were part of the broader APC leadership structure backing the emerging consensus within the party’s hierarchy.

The endorsement was formalised during a meeting of the GAC held on Tuesday afternoon at the State House, Marina, where party elders and leaders gathered to review succession plans and consolidate political direction ahead of 2027.

During the meeting, Dr. Hamzat was publicly presented as the preferred choice, with leaders signalling a united front.

”He is the consensus candidate of our party and we have all pledged to stand by him,” Prince Tajudeen Olusi said in a video posted on X on Tuesday by Wale Ajetunmobi, senior special assistant on media to Lagos state governor.

The GAC, led by Prince Tajudeen Olusi, emphasised internal cohesion and continuity in leadership, stressing that the decision reflects broad consultations within the party’s leadership structure.

The endorsement is expected to reshape early political calculations within the Lagos APC as preparations for the 2027 governorship race gradually begin to take shape, with the party seeking to maintain its long-standing dominance in the state.
