2027: ADC, opposition have collapsed – Fani-Kayode

Nigeria’s Ambassador to Germany, Femi Fani-Kayode, has criticised the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing it as unfit to serve as a credible opposition force.

Speaking on the state of opposition politics in the country, Fani-Kayode said the ADC is driven more by a quest for power than by a commitment to national development. He argued that individuals within the party lack the credibility and capacity to move Nigeria forward.

In a video shared on his Facebook page on Friday, the former Minister of Aviation further declared that the opposition in Nigeria has effectively collapsed, citing persistent internal conflicts and lack of unity among opposition parties.

According to him, opposition groups have failed in their core responsibility of holding the government accountable, instead engaging in infighting and disorganisation.

“I don’t see ADC as an opposition party; I see them as an association of people that are desperate for power. Individuals that are discredited, individuals that have no hope of moving this nation forward,” he said.

“The opposition has collapsed in Nigeria. There is no opposition because they don’t even know how to be in opposition. How can they keep the government on its toes when they are busy bickering amongst themselves and fighting one another?”

Fani-Kayode maintained that the absence of cohesion among opposition figures has weakened their effectiveness, leaving the political space without a strong counterbalance to the ruling government.
