The Delta State Police Command has announced a series of operational breakthroughs, including the recovery of a firearm and ammunition, the rescue of a kidnapped victim, and the arrest of suspected drug dealers across different parts of the state.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Bright Edafe, the Command said the successes were recorded through intelligence-led operations carried out by its operatives.

According to the statement, operatives of the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) on April 2, 2026, raided the residence of a suspect identified as Evan Olokpa Igbunu in Sapele, leading to the recovery of a firearm.

“A thorough search of the premises led to the recovery of one Baretta pistol and three rounds of live ammunition concealed within the building. The suspect is in custody, while investigation is ongoing,” the statement said.

The Command also disclosed that suspected illicit drugs were recovered during a separate operation in Ovwian-Aladja.

“On sighting the Police, the suspects fled the scene. A sack containing substances suspected to be hard drugs was recovered, while efforts are ongoing to arrest the fleeing suspects,” Edafe stated.

In another development, the police confirmed the rescue of a kidnapped victim in Abraka following a coordinated operation involving security operatives and local vigilantes.

“The Divisional Police Officer mobilised patrol teams in collaboration with vigilantes and hunters and stormed the bush where the victim was taken to. The suspects upon noticing that the policemen were closing in on them, abandoned the victim and took to their heels,” the statement added.

The victim, who was abducted on April 1 at Denedo Extension, Abraka, was rescued unharmed and has since provided useful information to aid ongoing investigations.

Furthermore, the Command said a suspected female drug dealer, Tare Orusanaye, was arrested in Effurun on April 3 with substances believed to be cannabis and other items.

“A female suspect… was arrested in possession of substances suspected to be cannabis, a weighing scale, tobacco items, and a generator tank used to conceal the drugs. Investigation is ongoing,” the police said.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response to intelligence.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to tackling crime through proactive and intelligence-driven policing, while urging residents to continue supporting security agencies with credible information.
