Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has extended Easter greetings to Christians worldwide while drawing attention to what he described as ongoing persecution of Christians in several countries, including Nigeria and parts of the Middle East.

In a post shared via Facebook on Sunday, Netanyahu sent goodwill messages to Christians in Israel, the United States and across the globe, wishing them a peaceful and joyful celebration.

“To our Christian friends in Israel, the United States and around the world, we wish you a blessed and joyful Easter,” he stated.

He, however, lamented the challenges faced by Christian communities in various regions, listing countries such as Nigeria, Syria, Lebanon and Turkey among those where he said Christians experience persecution.

“Christians are persecuted across the Middle East, in Syria, Lebanon, Nigeria, Turkey and beyond. But in our region, Israel alone protects our Christian community which is growing and prospering,” he added.

The Israeli leader further emphasised his country’s commitment to religious freedom, noting that Israel continues to safeguard worship for all faiths even amid ongoing security threats.

He referenced tensions involving missile attacks on Jerusalem, describing the city as a central point of global religious significance, and reaffirmed Israel’s resolve alongside its allies in addressing regional security challenges.

“In this land where the story began, as missiles are fired at our capital, the holy city of Jerusalem, and as the US and Israel stand firm against the Iranian regime and its terror proxies, we continue to steadfastly protect the freedom of worship for all faiths, especially at this sacred time,” he said.

Netanyahu stressed that Israel remains committed to protecting lives and ensuring religious liberty, adding that believers of all faiths should be able to worship without fear.

“Even under fire, our commitment is unwavering: to defend life, to safeguard liberty, and to ensure that every believer can pray in peace,” he stated.

He concluded his message by wishing Christians a season filled with hope and renewal.

“May the message of renewal, hope, and faith shine brightly in your homes and hearts. Happy Easter,” he added.
