Police arrest suspect over alleged defilement in Ondo

The Ondo State Police Command has apprehended a 23-year-old man, Emmanuel Usman, for allegedly defiling a 14-year-old girl in Ijebu-Owo, Owo Local Government Area of the state.

According to reports, the victim bravely came forward to report the incident, stating that Usman forcefully dragged her into his employer’s office and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her without her consent.

The suspect allegedly threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosed the incident to anyone.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command’s spokesperson, confirmed the arrest on Monday and stated that the investigation is ongoing.

“The suspect is currently in custody and has made a useful statement to aid the investigation,” he said.

He added that victim has received necessary medical care at the General Hospital, Owo, and is being provided with psychosocial support.

The police are exploring additional mechanisms to ensure her well-being throughout the investigative and judicial process.

Commissioner of Police Adebowale Lawal has directed that the case be handled with utmost diligence, sensitivity, and urgency.

“The command strongly condemns acts of defilement and all forms of abuse against minors and assures the public that such offenders will be brought to justice in accordance with the law,” he said.

The police are urging parents, guardians, and the public to remain vigilant and educate their wards on personal safety.

“Promptly report any suspicious or criminal activities to the nearest police station,” DSP Jimoh advised.
