PRP not divided, remains united — Spokesperson

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has denied reports of a crisis within its ranks, insisting that the party remains united and focused despite claims of a breakaway group.

In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, dismissed reports linking the PRP to a faction identified as the “PRP-Vanguard Collective,” describing the group as unknown to the party’s recognised leadership and membership.

According to Ishaq, the alleged faction does not represent the ideals or official structure of the party, adding that the claims surfaced at a time when the PRP is recording increasing support across the country.

He said, “These individuals parading themselves under such a name are not known to the party in any capacity. It is not a coincidence that such claims are emerging now, just when the PRP is attracting renewed national interest and building momentum.”

The spokesperson alleged that certain forces were attempting to create confusion within the party in order to slow its growing influence in the nation’s political space.

He stressed that the PRP would not be intimidated by what he described as calculated misinformation and politically motivated propaganda.

“We want Nigerians to know that no amount of pressure, false narratives or sponsored distractions can derail us. We are fully prepared for every form of challenge, whether genuine or manufactured. Our calm disposition should never be mistaken for weakness,” he said.

The statement comes amid heightened political manoeuvring ahead of the 2027 general elections, as several political parties continue consultations, internal restructuring and coalition discussions.

Against this backdrop, the PRP said attempts to destabilise its internal structure would fail, noting that the party remains firmly committed to its mission and expansion plans.

Ishaq said, “These crude tactics are not surprising. As PRP continues to grow and reassert itself in national politics, some interests will naturally feel threatened. But no force can stop a movement whose time has come.”

He further accused unnamed groups of acting out of fear and desperation, while reaffirming that the party’s resolve remains unshaken.

Founded in 1978, the PRP is one of Nigeria’s oldest surviving political parties and traces its ideological roots to the progressive politics of the Second Republic.

Over the years, the party has continued to present itself as a platform committed to social welfare, justice and people-oriented governance.

The party also pointed to its survival through years of military rule and political turbulence as evidence of its resilience and enduring relevance.

Reiterating confidence in its future, the PRP said it would continue mobilising supporters nationwide and pursuing what it described as the true political redemption of Nigeria.

“We have started the journey and we are ready for what lies ahead. PRP remains loyal to its founding principles, dedicated to its members and committed to the Nigerian people. We will remain focused and continue moving forward,” the statement added.
