LAWMA withdraws licences of underperforming PSP operators

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has withdrawn the licences of some underperforming Private Sector Participation (PSP) operators and realigned waste collection routes in parts of Lagos State as part of efforts to improve service delivery and expand waste management coverage.

This was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by the Director of Public Affairs of LAWMA, Mukaila Sanusi.

Sanusi quoted the agency’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, to have stated that the decision followed a comprehensive operational review aimed at matching operator capacity with the growing waste management demands of the state.

According to him, the affected operators failed to meet required service standards, making the withdrawal of their licences necessary in the interest of public health and environmental sustainability.

The affected operators are Kenny JPS in Igando-Ikotun (Egan II), Clean Craft Nig Limited in Igando-Ikotun (Isheri-Oshun I), Doveroost Ltd in Eti-Osa West, Dewayls in Ojo (Ijegun Emure), and Pesjoy Ventures in Ejigbo (Bucknor II).

Gbadegesin also said LAWMA had introduced route realignment in areas experiencing rapid development and increased waste generation, where the operational capacity of a single operator was no longer sufficient.

Under the new arrangement, existing operators will retain part of their routes, while additional operators have been brought in to complement service delivery.

Operators affected by the route realignment include Shekaz Global Limited in Isolo (Ishaga/Ire Akari axis) and Krestabol Waste Management in Ikorodu (Lowa).

“In locations where development has outpaced the capacity of a single operator, it becomes necessary to redistribute operational responsibilities to guarantee timely and effective service delivery,” Gbadegesin said.

He added that some operators voluntarily relinquished their routes, allowing the authority to reassign the areas to firms with stronger operational capacity.

Operators in this category include Ayolade Oluwabukola Enterprises in Lagos Island East (Ajele axis) and Imperium Waste Services in Ayoobo/Ipaja (Slot B).

The LAWMA boss described the restructuring exercise as a strategic intervention designed to strengthen the PSP framework, improve accountability, and ensure waste management services keep pace with Lagos’ rapid urban growth.

He urged residents to cooperate with newly assigned operators and continue to patronise only LAWMA-accredited PSP operators.

Gbadegesin reaffirmed LAWMA’s commitment to continuous monitoring, enforcement, and stakeholder engagement to achieve a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable Lagos.
