Vice President Kashim Shettima has urged Nigerians to embrace unity, peaceful coexistence, and shared sacrifice as Muslims across the country celebrate Eid-el-Kabir.

In his 2026 Eid-el-Kabir message issued on Wednesday, Shettima said the lessons of the Islamic festival remain critical to Nigeria’s pursuit of peace, stability, and inclusive development under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The Vice President called on citizens to reflect on the virtues of faith, obedience, sacrifice, and compassion exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim, noting that the festive period should serve as a time to support the less privileged and strengthen bonds of brotherhood.

According to him, national unity must take precedence over ethnic, religious, and political differences, stressing that peaceful coexistence is essential for the country’s collective prosperity.

“What binds us together supersedes whatever divides us. As a nation, we must continue to strengthen the spirit of unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence for our collective progress and prosperity,” he stated.

Shettima noted that sustainable national development cannot thrive in an atmosphere of mistrust and division, urging Nigerians to unite in confronting the country’s common challenges.

He said the Tinubu administration remains focused on tackling insecurity, stabilising the economy, creating jobs, and expanding opportunities for citizens across the country.

The Vice President acknowledged that ongoing reforms by the Federal Government may require patience and sacrifice but described them as necessary measures aimed at rebuilding a stronger and more prosperous Nigeria.

He also appealed to Nigerians to continue supporting the administration’s reform agenda, saying shared sacrifice and collective resolve are vital to overcoming insecurity, poverty, and social challenges.

Shettima further assured citizens that the Federal Government remains committed to restoring peace and security nationwide, while commending members of the armed forces and security agencies for their sacrifices in defending the country.

He expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future, stating that the country is gradually advancing on the path of peace, recovery, and sustainable development.

“No matter how long the night may seem, dawn will surely come. Nigeria is steadily advancing on the path of peace, recovery and sustainable development,” VP Shettima said.
