We have no plans to create special visas for Nigerians, Japanese authorities says

The Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has rubbished claims that the country is creating special visas for Nigerian immigrants seeking to live and work in Kisarazu.

The denial comes after a State House director, Abiodun Oladunjoye, announced that Japan would soon begin issuing special visas to highly skilled and talented young Nigerians.

According to the Japanese government, the reports and announcements about special visas are “not true.”

There are no plans to promote the acceptance of immigrants or issue special visas for residents of African countries, the authorities clarified.

The controversy surrounds the JICA Africa Hometown initiative, launched to improve bilateral relations between Japan and select African countries.

While Oladunjoye claimed the move was aimed at fostering economic ties between the two nations, the Japanese government stated that the designation of hometowns was only to “promote exchanges between the four Japanese cities and the four African countries through various activities.”
