The Oyo State Police Command has debunked reports claiming that students, pupils and teachers abducted in Orire Local Government Area of the state have been rescued.
In a statement issued on Friday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the victims were yet to be released, adding that security agencies were intensifying efforts to secure their safe rescue and apprehend those behind the abduction.
The command described as false the rumours circulating about the victims’ release and urged residents to remain calm while supporting the ongoing operations by the joint security team.
According to the statement, the spread of fake news and misinformation could create unnecessary panic, heighten tension and distract security operatives from the rescue mission.
The police assured residents that verified updates would be communicated as developments unfold and advised members of the public to confirm information before sharing it.
The command also urged individuals seeking clarification or authentic information to contact the Police Public Relations Officer or the command’s control room through its official emergency lines.
