The headquarters of the Joint Task Force North-East, Operation HADIN KAI, has warned residents of possible terrorist attacks during the forthcoming Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, saying Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) fighters may attempt to target crowded locations in the region.

In a security advisory issued on Monday, the military said intelligence reports suggested that remnants of the terrorist groups were planning to exploit the festive period to launch attacks, including suicide bombings and the use of improvised explosive devices in densely populated areas.

Despite the threats, the command assured residents that adequate security arrangements had been put in place to guarantee peaceful celebrations across the North-East.

According to the military, troops have already been strategically deployed to vulnerable areas, while surveillance and reconnaissance operations have been intensified to detect and neutralise potential threats.

The command disclosed that security agencies were working closely with the Civilian Joint Task Force, community vigilance groups and other sister agencies to strengthen security during the festivities.

Operation HADIN KAI urged residents to remain alert throughout the celebration period and avoid exposing themselves unnecessarily to security risks.

It advised Muslim faithful to observe Eid prayers and celebrations close to their homes and avoid crowded gatherings where possible.

The military also called on members of the public to be vigilant in public places such as markets, motor parks, banks and prayer grounds, urging them to promptly report suspicious movements, persons or objects to security operatives.

Residents were further encouraged to cooperate with security personnel during patrols and screening exercises, while avoiding the spread of unverified information capable of causing panic.

The command appealed to traditional rulers, religious leaders, media organisations and community stakeholders to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information to authorities.

Reaffirming its commitment to protecting lives and property, Operation HADIN KAI said it remained determined to deny terrorists freedom of operation and ensure residents celebrate the Eid-el-Kabir festivities peacefully and safely across the region.
