Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has expressed satisfaction over the return of former governor and senator, Ibrahim Shekarau, to the All Progressives Congress, describing the development as a significant gain for the party’s structure in the state.

In a statement released on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Mustapha Muhammad, the governor said Shekarau’s re-entry into the APC would bolster the party’s political standing and enhance its preparedness for future electoral contests in Kano.

Yusuf disclosed that arrangements were already underway for a formal reception to welcome the former governor, noting that a date would be fixed in collaboration with the party’s national leadership.

He further noted that the APC in Kano has continued to expand its support base, with increasing alignment across different parts of the state. According to him, the party remains firmly positioned as a leading political force, with strong prospects in upcoming elections.

The governor also expressed confidence in the party’s readiness to secure victories in future polls, attributing the optimism to growing unity and strategic coordination among members.

He assured supporters that efforts were ongoing to deepen internal cohesion while extending the party’s reach at the grassroots level.

Yusuf called on party loyalists to remain committed and intensify mobilisation efforts as preparations gather momentum ahead of the next election cycle.

Earlier, Shekarau confirmed his resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party. In a letter dated April 19, 2026, and addressed to the PDP chairman of Giginyu Ward in Nassarawa Local Government Area, Kano State, he announced that his decision takes immediate effect.

The former governor explained that his exit followed extensive consultations with members of his political camp, adding that the move was part of a broader plan to continue his political activities under a different platform.

He also appreciated party leaders at the ward level for their support during his time in the PDP, offering prayers for continued guidance in their leadership roles.

Shekarau’s return to the APC is widely seen as a development that could influence political alignments in Kano as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the next round of elections.
