The Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) has partnered with the Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, to strengthen enforcement of environmental and waste management laws across the state.

The Special Adviser to the Governor and Managing Director of OGWAMA, Hon. Farok Adeniyi Akintunde, announced the collaboration after leading the agency’s management team to a strategic meeting with the Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, at the Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Akintunde said the partnership is aimed at improving compliance with waste management regulations, particularly in addressing indiscriminate dumping of refuse in public places such as roadsides and medians.

He noted that the initiative would reinforce the existing relationship between OGWAMA and the police while enhancing efforts to maintain a cleaner, safer and healthier environment in Ogun State.

In his response, CP Ojajuni reaffirmed the command’s commitment to supporting OGWAMA’s enforcement activities across the state.

He indicated that police officers would ensure adherence to the Ogun State Environmental and Waste Management Laws and warned residents against obstructing OGWAMA officials in the discharge of their duties.

The police commissioner also advised the agency to complement enforcement with widespread advocacy and sensitisation.

He recommended collaboration with non-governmental organisations, schools and community groups, as well as the establishment of special waste marshals to educate residents on proper waste disposal practices and encourage the use of approved Private Sector Participants for waste collection.
