Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kano State Command, have arrested three suspects in separate operations involving the vandalism of electricity infrastructure and the theft of a tricycle.
The Command confirmed that two of the suspects were arrested for allegedly vandalising and stealing about 300 metres of aluminium conductor cables belonging to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) in Yunfawa village, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the suspects—Adamu Ibrahim, 25, and Abba Ado, 24—both residents of Roba in Dawakin Tofa LGA, carried out the act on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m.
The statement explained that the duo climbed electric poles in the community and removed the cables before they were intercepted while attempting to cart away the stolen materials.
“Two of the suspects, Adamu Ibrahim and Abba Ado, were apprehended shortly after vandalising and stealing 300 metres of aluminium conductor cables at Yunfawa, Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State,” the statement said.
It added that preliminary investigation revealed the suspects were already moving the stolen cables when security operatives intervened and arrested them. The NSCDC further disclosed that the suspects later confessed to the crime during interrogation at the state headquarters, adding that one other accomplice is currently at large.
In a separate incident, NSCDC personnel also arrested an 18-year-old suspected tricycle thief, Abdullahi Aminu, from Unguwar Dabai in Dala Local Government Area.
The suspect was apprehended on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, along the Kofar Waika–Kofar Dawanau dual carriageway during a routine patrol by NSCDC operatives.
According to the Corps, the suspect allegedly mounted a parked tricycle by the roadside while a female passenger was inside, and then drove off at high speed while the rider was away delivering a parcel.
“The suspect forcefully entered a parked tricycle with a female passenger on board while the rider had stepped away. He zoomed off recklessly,” the statement added.
NSCDC operatives stationed in the area reportedly responded quickly to distress calls, rescued the female passenger unharmed, and arrested the suspect.
The Command stated that all three suspects are currently in custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
The NSCDC also reiterated its commitment to tackling vandalism and other criminal activities affecting critical infrastructure across Kano State.
