Stop spreading false news about Adeboye, RCCG warns

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has dismissed what it described as persistent false narratives and misleading commentaries about its General Overseer, Enoch Adejare Adeboye.

The church urged the public and media organisations to verify information through the church’s official communication channels.

In a statement posted on its official X page on Tuesday, the church said it would no longer remain silent while what it described as inaccurate narratives about Pastor Adeboye and the RCCG were circulated as facts.

“The lies have gone on long enough. It stops now!!!” the church stated.

According to RCCG, Pastor Adeboye and the church have for years been subjected to “false narratives, deliberate misrepresentations, and misleading commentaries driven by personal interests and agenda setting.”

The church stressed that only its designated communication channels and authorised representatives are empowered to speak on its behalf, advising the public to verify claims concerning Pastor Adeboye and RCCG through its official public relations platform before accepting or sharing them.

“Pastor Adeboye and The RCCG will not be defined by falsehood, and neither will the Church remain silent while inaccurate narratives are repeatedly circulated as facts,” the statement said.

RCCG also issued a warning to bloggers, commentators, media platforms and content publishers, insisting that publications concerning the church and its leader should be properly verified before being presented as factual.

“Accuracy is not optional. Responsible journalism requires verification,” it stated.

As part of the clarification, the church addressed several claims that have circulated about Pastor Adeboye.

On allegations that the cleric campaigned for the government in power, RCCG described the claim as false, maintaining that Pastor Adeboye has consistently encouraged members to obtain their voter cards and vote according to their convictions, while remaining neutral on partisan political matters.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye has always encouraged members of The Redeemed Christian Church of God to get their PVCs and vote for anyone of their choice. He has always maintained a neutral stance on political parties as members of the Church are members of various political parties,” the church said.

The church also rejected claims that Pastor Adeboye called off a planned protest, explaining that he merely relayed a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria regarding changes to the format of a three-day prayer programme.

According to RCCG, the updated arrangement involved holding the grand finale of the programme at a central venue and organising a rally around the location, a directive communicated by PFN to member churches nationwide.

In addition, the church dismissed assertions that Pastor Adeboye has remained silent on national issues, saying he has repeatedly addressed concerns such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections and governance.

“Pastor E.A. Adeboye has, on several occasions, spoken about national issues such as insecurity, corruption, economic hardship, elections, governance, and the need for righteous leadership. However, he often chooses the language of moral guidance, prayer, and counsel rather than partisan political confrontation,” the statement added.

The church concluded by urging the public to prioritise facts over speculation, insisting that “truth matters” and encouraging Nigerians to rely on its official channels for verified information and updates.
