President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as Minister of Power, forwarding his name to the Senate for screening and confirmation.

The nomination, announced on Thursday, follows the resignation of former minister Adebayo Adelabu, who stepped down to pursue elective office.

The nomination was conveyed in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

Tegbe, an indigene of Oyo State, is a seasoned fiscal and economic reform specialist with more than three decades of experience across both public and private sectors.

He previously served as Senior Partner and Head of Advisory Services at KPMG Africa, where he led initiatives in fiscal policy, governance reforms, and institutional transformation.

He currently holds the position of Director General and Global Liaison for the Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, where he oversees efforts to deepen development cooperation between Nigeria and China.

The partnership also coordinates engagements with public sector stakeholders in line with the objectives of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

Tegbe’s professional background includes involvement in Nigeria’s power sector, particularly in regulatory and institutional reforms.

He has worked with agencies such as the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company.

According to the presidency, his nomination is expected to support ongoing reforms aimed at improving electricity supply, stabilising the national grid, and attracting long-term investment into the sector under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The President expressed confidence that, if confirmed, Tegbe would leverage his experience to drive critical improvements in the power sector and deliver better outcomes for Nigerians.
