Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and the Federal Executive Council following the approval of strategic infrastructure contracts worth over ₦1.17 trillion for projects in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, the governor described the approvals as transformative investments that would significantly reshape Kaduna’s economic and social landscape.

According to him, the approved projects include the Kaduna Light Rail Project, estimated at ₦1 trillion, and the reconstruction of the Mando–Kaduna–Birnin Gwari road valued at ₦178 billion.

Sani said the light rail project would cover a 30-kilometre corridor from Rigachikun to Sabon Tasha, as well as a 20-kilometre line linking Millennium City to Rigasa, creating a 50-kilometre metropolitan rail network.

He noted that the rail project would complement the state’s ongoing 24-kilometre Bus Rapid Transit system, which is designed to improve urban mobility.

“The Federal Government’s support for the light rail project is both historic and catalytic. It reinforces our vision of an integrated transport ecosystem,” the governor said.

He added that Kaduna had taken a leading role in Northern Nigeria by developing a comprehensive state transport policy focused on efficiency, safety, environmental sustainability and affordability.

The governor said initiatives such as subsidised Compressed Natural Gas buses, modern terminals and structured transit corridors were already positioning Kaduna as a major transportation and logistics hub.

Sani further stated that Kaduna’s emergence as one of the few states pursuing a light rail system reflected confidence in the state’s development vision and execution capacity.

On the road project, he described the rehabilitation of the Mando–Birnin Gwari road as both symbolic and practical, noting that it would improve connectivity, strengthen security, boost agriculture and restore confidence in communities affected by years of neglect and insecurity.

He recalled President Tinubu’s visit to Birnin Gwari ahead of the 2023 general elections, saying the road project demonstrated the fulfilment of promises made to the people.

“This road will not only enhance connectivity but also strengthen security, facilitate agricultural productivity, and restore confidence to communities long burdened by isolation,” he said.

The governor reaffirmed Kaduna State’s commitment to ensuring diligent execution of the projects, describing them as enduring legacies that would lay the foundation for a more prosperous, secure and connected future.

He also thanked the President for what he called his steadfast commitment to Kaduna State and equitable national development.
