Leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement and former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has announced Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo as the governorship candidate of the National Democratic Congress for the 2027 Kano State governorship election.

Kwankwaso also named former Deputy Governor of Kano State, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, as the party’s candidate for the Kano Central Senatorial District.

The former Kano governor disclosed this in a statement shared on his verified X handle on Friday ahead of the party’s affirmation exercise.

According to Kwankwaso, the selection of the candidates was based on equity, competence, loyalty and the need to sustain unity within the political structure in the state.

“I am delighted to announce that His Excellency, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo has been selected as our Kano NDC gubernatorial candidate for the upcoming elections,” he stated.

“Similarly, Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna will contest for the Kano Central Senatorial Seat.”

Kwankwaso said the decision reflected the values of fairness and internal cohesion within the Kwankwasiyya movement and the party.

The announcement comes ahead of the party’s scheduled affirmation exercise expected to formally ratify the consensus candidates in line with preparations for the 2027 elections.

He urged party supporters and members of the Kwankwasiyya movement to remain peaceful and committed to the party’s electoral ambitions.

Kwankwaso also expressed optimism that the party would emerge victorious in the forthcoming elections.
