Troops of Operation EASTERN SANITY II have raided a suspected criminal hideout in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State, recovering explosive materials and motorcycles allegedly linked to criminal activities.

The operation, carried out in the early hours of Friday, followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected cultists and other criminal elements in Achi Town, Oji River LGA.

Security sources said troops deployed in Oji River, working alongside Keystone personnel in the area, stormed the location at about 4:30 a.m. during the coordinated raid.

During the operation, security operatives recovered eight motorcycles and two buckets of locally made gunpowder suspected to have been used for criminal operations.

Three suspects were also arrested during the raid. They were identified as Ozor Benjamin, 85, from Isikwe Achi, Miracle Eze, 26, and Ogechukwu Okorie, 29, both from Umuoka Achi in Oji River Local Government Area.

The suspects and recovered items were subsequently handed over to security authorities in Oji River for further investigation and possible prosecution.

Military authorities said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts by Operation EASTERN SANITY II and other security agencies to sustain pressure on criminal groups threatening peace and security in the South-East.

They added that troops remain committed to denying criminal elements freedom of operation in the region while urging residents to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies.
