President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), marking a major leadership transition in the examination body.
The appointment was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aina will assume office upon the expiration of the tenure of the outgoing Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, whose term ends on July 31, 2026.
Describing the new appointee, the Presidency said Aina is a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, with strong expertise in digital systems, examination technology infrastructure and institutional reforms.
“Professor Aina, who will be 40 in July, is a distinguished academic and systems expert with extensive experience in national examination systems, digital infrastructure, and public-sector institutional reform,” the statement said.
He is expected to bring his technical and administrative experience to bear in strengthening JAMB’s digital architecture and improving examination processes across the country.
The statement further outlined his academic background, noting that he obtained a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, United Kingdom, followed by a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security, and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.
It added that he has also completed the Senior Management Programme at the Lagos Business School.
According to the Presidency, Aina has more than 15 years of professional experience advising both federal and state governments on digital transformation, systems design and institutional reforms.
He was also described as one of the youngest professors in Computer Engineering in Nigeria, and is expected to become the youngest Registrar in the history of JAMB upon assumption of office.
