Financial advisor and educator, Kalu Aja, has criticised remarks by President Bola Tinubu linking the country’s worsening insecurity to individuals who benefited from the fuel subsidy and foreign exchange regimes.
Tinubu, represented by former Ogun State governor, Olusegun Osoba, made the remarks on Wednesday during the launch of the book, The NADECO Story, in Lagos.
According to the President, those who profited from the corruption-tainted fuel subsidy and foreign exchange systems were responsible for escalating insecurity across the country.
Reacting in a post on X on Thursday, Aja said the President appeared to be looking for who to blame instead of addressing the actual causes of insecurity.
The financial expert questioned the link between insecurity and the fuel subsidy or foreign exchange regimes, referencing recent attacks in parts of northern Nigeria.
He warned that failure to properly identify the root causes of insecurity could further worsen the situation.
“Mr. President is seeking who to blame,” Aja wrote.
“The US just bombed ISIS in the NE (North-East). Was ISIS importing PMS? The folks invading villages to slaughter citizens in farms and homesteads are they seeking green back or green grass?
“If one does not know the problem, one can’t fix the problem. Now I am really quite worried.”
